The history of OpenWeekend dates back to the year 2001, when, after succesfully finished InstallFest in Strahov student's canteen, its coordinators got an idea to organize a conference for more advanced users. So began OpenWeekend, conference focused on open systems, free software and security of computer systems. Already in its first year, it attracted a lot of participants. They entirely filled up auditorium 209 on the Faculty of electrical engineering CTU Prague. It were our friends and acquaintances who presented their papers. Due to relatively big success of this event, we decided to continue in it.
OpenWeekend 2, organized in june 2002 was (among others) interesting also due to the participation of the authors of the best Linux kernel security systems - LIDS, RSBAC a Medusa. It took place in auditorium 256 on FEE CTU.
We chose a title "OpenWeekend 2003" for the third annual of the conference. Place of action shifted a few blocks aside, into auditorium D1 on Faculty of Civil Engineering and it was OpenWeekend with the greatest attendance so far. The main topics of the first day were XML, Document management, transport layer encryption and finally the discussion on the subject of open technologies in the government administration attended by the chairman of CZLUG, the speaker of Free Software Foundation, deputy of ministry of informatics and many others. Second day Wi-Fi security, Internet protocol version 6, and revolutionary discoveries in cryptoanalysis were discussed.
Now we are heading towards OpenWeekend 2004 and we are trying to maintain high quality of the whole event. Due to the fact that the conference became an interesting place for meetings of the community, for this annual, we are preparing a little surprise - a social event on Saturday evening.
